EPISODE #69 – Record Breaking Basketball Scorder Jay Burson

Play

Guests: Jay Burson and Rex Leach

Hosts: Larry Hackenberg and Ron Hoyt

In his four years playing basketball at John Glenn High School in New Concord, Ohio (1981-85), Jay Burson scored an astounding 2,985 points! This feat earned him the title of all-time high scorer in the history of Ohio high school basketball; that record would stand for the next 22 years. Jay joins us in the studio to tell us what it was like making history, his following four years playing for Ohio State, his stint in the NBA, and also what he’s been up to since! Joining Jay in the time machine is the coach who helped him achieve the record (Ron Hoyt) and the man whose record Jay beat (Rex Leach).

Dave Wottle

Guest: Dave Wottle

Hosts: Larry Hackenberg & Mark Milano

From his start at Canton’s Lincoln High School to a gold medal in the 1972 Olympic games, Dave Wottle certainly has an amazing story to share! Lucky for us, he’s in the studio to do so as he details all about that amazing summer day in Munich where he took home the gold in the Olympic 800 meter final as well as what he’s been up to since. A great story from a great guy!

As a special bonus, Dave also appeared as a guest on our Stark county WHBC show earlier in the year; if you want the FULL Dave Wottle / Sports Time Machine experience, you can listen to that shorter interview here!
